The department

The Finance Team plays a key role in supporting the various Bedell Cristin Partnerships as well as working closely with the other support functions.

The principal purpose of this role is to manage the daily activities and issues related to the finance function, systems and the team to ensure the effective delivery of our firms financial objectives.

More about the role

A typical day in this role will be:

  • Ensuring that our core accounting functions and processes operate efficiently at all times
  • To process and deliver a range of core management reports on a regular/monthly basis for fee earners, practice areas and the partnership as a whole
  • Identify methods to monitor budget processes on a rolling and annual basis
  • Alongside the Head of Finance, liaising with business heads to identify and implement measures to improve billing and utilisation rates, credit control, working capital management, turnover, profitability and risk management across the firm.
  • Ensuring that effective procedures and controls are in place to maintain, develop and ensure our internal controls around compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements in all locations
  • Completion of statutory and any regulatory returns (including VAT and tax)
  • Taking responsibility for specific project related activities, this may include defining and implementing a policy and procedures manual
  • Developing and maintaining online support for the team and the firm on the intranet
  • Taking responsibility, alongside the relevant partners/managers to ensure we get value for money from our expenditure and challenging as necessary
  • Contribute to overall effectiveness of the department by interaction/communication with colleagues, including working with the Head of Finance in all matters relating to the team, including involvement in team appraisals and development planning
  • Other tasks designed to ensure the business achieves its financial objectives, as delegated by the CFO, COO or Global Managing Partner

We're looking for a few specific skills and qualifications, and work experience, which include:

  • A full professional accountancy qualification
  • At least 5 years' experience in a professional services accounting environment
  • A comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and best practice
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems, including proven use of a large database system including reporting with SQL
